2011′s Captain Planet Foundation Benefit Gala was an enormous success. We raised over $855,000 for our children and the environment. The money raised will help fund Captain Planet Foundation’s mission, to support hands-on environmental projects which are designed to encourage innovative, game-changing initiatives that will inspire and empower the next generation of environmental stewards.

I think it says so much that we raised more money this one year in economically difficult times than we have in the last three combined! It says a lot about how much people really care about our children and their future.

While I spent a large part of the evening tending to my responsibilities as co-chair of the event, I did enjoy seeing so many of my friends and family who attended.

Some of the highlights included an amazing performance by Allison Krauss and a delicious ( and sustainably-farmed) meal by Wolfgang Puck.

It was also a really rewarding experience for me to present the Captain Planet Foundation “Superhero for Earth Awards”. Dr. Sylvia Earle received the CPF Exemplar Award for her world-renowned oceanography work. Animal Planet star and environmentalist Jeff Corwin received the Super Hero for Earth Award for his conservation efforts of endangered species and ecosystems around the globe. Eco-Activist and Student Leader Eric Estroff received the Captain Planet Young Hero for the Earth Award for his leadership with the Green Schools Alliance Student Climate and Conservation Congress and Green Cup Challenge. The Captain Planet Green School Award was awarded to Arabia Mountain High School for creating great stewards of our next generation.

What a great night and thank you everyone for your support.
